Wood Shop Layout Information
Rod spent many months planning and designing the layout for his wood shop; the requirements for a functional workshop are:
- A workable building size: 24' x 32' (his adjacent metal shop is about the same size)
- Heated slab construction: Four zone hot water system; water heated by a 30 gallon, propane water heater
- Building structure: Standard pole barn with dual metal walls with 8" of insulation; the ceiling is 10' with 24" of insulation above the ceiling
- All interior walls are white for good light reflection
- Standard doors and windows: Overhead is 9'x8'; 36" Entance Door; 24"x36" window
- Electrical service: 150 Amps; 110/220 wall outlets placed every 6' along the walls
- Electrical outlet ceiling drops placed just above head height throughout the shop
- Dual runs of ceiling flourescent lights provide basic lighting
- Dust Removal System with 10 drops; some from the ceiling
- Air Cleaner with 1000 cfpm capacity
- Ceiling fan for air cirulation
- 24" deep work bench and storage shelving running the length of one wall
- Air Compressor, 6 HP, with air hose hanging from ceiling for all air tools
- Telephone service for phone, data, etc.
