How To Make A Trophy Plaque
With the right plans, materials, and equipment, you can make a Wooden Sports Trophy Plaque or use it as a Family Crest Plaque, as shown here.
Materials:
- 3/4" x 13" x 15" Oak (or other hardwood): One Piece per plaque
- One Hanging Hook
- Paper for a Pattern
- Sandpaper
- Wood Filler and Glue
- Satin Finish Polyurethane Poly
Step 1: Trace and cut out the Plaque - Determine the desired size of the Plaque
- Select the Pattern Paper and sketch a plaque design of your choice or use the dimensions above
- Select the 3/4" material and trace the pattern
- Select the 3/4" material and using a band or scroll saw, cut out the Plaque up to the line (leave the lines showing)
- Sand all the edges smooth to the drawn lines
- Router the face-front edges with a quarter-round bit deep enough to leave a 1/16" lip
- Fill all holes and cracks with filler; and sand the top and bottom surfaces
- Apply poly and hanging hook
- Attach the desired trophy item, crest, etc., and hang on the wall
