How To Build Wooden Book Stands
With the right plans, materials, and equipment, you can build this simple Book Stand, as shown here.
Materials
- 1/2" Hardwood Plywood @ 16" x 12": One piece for the Top Panel
- 3/4" x 6" x 27" Oak or other desired Wood: for all remaining pieces
- 1 1/4" Kregg Screws
- 1 1/4" Wood Screws
- Sandpaper
- Wood Filler and Glue
- Satin Finish Polyurethane Poly

Step 1: Cut the Book Stand Pieces - Determine the desired size of your Stand
- Select the 1/2" Plywood Panel; cut one piece for the Top Panel @ 12" x 16"
- Select the 3/4" material; cut the two Legs, Brace, and Lip per the dimensions above
- Select all pieces; Sand all pieces
Step 2: Assemble the Stand Pieces - Select all pieces
- Select the Lip and Top Panel; Attach the Lip to the top panel with glue and two wood screws from the bottom as shown above
- Select the two Legs and the Bottom Brace; Connect the two Legs to the Bottom Brace from the bottom side with the Kregg system, as shown above
- Select the Leg and the Top Assembly; Center the assemblies and with glue and screws, attach them together
Step 3: Finish the Shelf - Select the finishing materials
- Fill all holes and cracks with filler; sand all surfaces
- Apply poly
- Enjoy your Book Stand
